Mac 24/7 Restaurant

January 10, 2011

I was in Hawaii for a total of 3 days, just barely over 72 hours, and I seriously went to this restaurant at least five or six times.  Mainly because it was convenient, but also because they genuinely have good food.

Upon landing in Honolulu, our friend Paul who was already there, recommended this restaurant that he had recently discovered.  They are known for the “Mac Daddy Pancake Challenge,” which was featured on Man vs. Food.  This was one of the few challenges he wasn’t able to finish.

The first night eating there Paul and I split the friend chicken and waffles which sounded like a great idea until ten minutes after leaving the restaurant.  I didn’t get sick but the greasy food made me feel like a slob.  I spent the week before Hawaii in San Francisco where I mainly ate light, healthy meals so it was an extreme difference.  My body wasn’t happy with me but I’m thankful we decided to split the meal because I barely finished my half.

We weren’t at all pleased with the buffet styled, over priced breakfast restaurant in the Marriott that we were staying in so we had breakfast here the following two mornings that we were there.  Also, when our other friend flew in a few days after us we figured it was a safe bet to take him there to eat.  As if those four meals there, on top of the meal our first day there, wasn’t enough, we also stopped there our last night to get dessert which totals six visits to the place.  All in all, even though it has mixed reviews on Yelp, I’d highly recommend this restaurant.

I found a few other videos of the Man vs. Food challenge but I’m only able to directly post videos from YouTube on this blog.  In order to embed other videos I have to pay for the video service which I’m not going to do.

Kayaking Kailua

January 4, 2011

Wednesday, 12/29/2010 was my last day in Hawaii.  My friends who I was there with had a 10am flight out of Honolulu to visit the island of Kauai and I had a 10pm flight to return to Tampa.  We had a rental car so I dropped them off at the airport in the morning and then I had about twelve hours on my own.  I planned on going to Hanauma Bay which has some amazing coral that is open to the public to snorkel at.  The only problem with Hanauma Bay is that it has a small parking area so they close the park down and you can’t enter once they do so.  Rumor had it that they typically close at 9 or 10am and it was approximately 11am by time I got there so I wasn’t surprised when I wasn’t able to get in.

But since I wasn’t able to get into Hanauma Bay I ended up going kayaking at Kailua Beach.  The drive around Hamauma Bay and then heading towards Kailua Beach had amazing scenery which I didn’t happen to see the day before because we drove a different way.  The rock faces with 1000’s of feet of drop off very close to the road were amazing but unfortunately I wasn’t able to stop and get any pictures other than what is already posted.  The day was a bit overcast and rainy during the drive but it cleared up as I got to the beach and rented the kayak.

Unfortunately the pictures aren’t amazing because I used an underwater $15 camera.  They look a bit from the 90’s I think but here they are all.  I was going to take half of the bad ones out but figured I’d post them all.

Hawaii Pictures

I’ve spent a lot of time lately taking notes on this long trip that I am currently on and I have a few posts that I’m working on.  For now, here’s some photos from the Hawaii portion of the trip.  I’ll post some information on where these photos are and what I did for the three days that I was staying in Oahu.  Feel free to leave comments if you have anything to say!!
